Lake Burton Magic

There’s something undeniably special about Lake Burton.

Lie back in a boat, feel the gentle rocking, and let the lapping waves carry your worries away. Overhead, Red-tailed hawks circle the robin’s egg blue sky, sometimes joined by the majestic silhouette of a Bald Eagle. In the background, the low rumble of inboard motors mingles with the cheerful quacking of ducks and the occasional whine of outboard engines as boats glide across the water.

Whether aboard a rented john boat, a lovingly restored Chris Craft, or a brand-new party barge, two things remain consistent—friendly waves and kind smiles from everyone you pass. Life on Lake Burton is simple yet refined and it’s where rustic charm and upscale living harmoniously meet.

Homes With Heart and History

Take a tour around the lake and you'll see the full spectrum of Lake Burton living. From sprawling, multi-level homes with seven bedrooms and nine baths to cozy cabins whose roots were fish camps, each property tells a story. The architectural diversity—mirrored in the whimsical names etched on wooden signs like Sticks ‘n StonesLake Lief , Uncle Fred’s—adds character found nowhere else.

Even the boathouses shine with personality. Some are elaborate, with stone fireplaces and upper jump docks for those brave enough to jump!  Others have platforms weathered by time, adorned with flower-filled planters and faded beach towels waving in the breeze.

A Legacy of LaPrade’s

No Lake Burton story is complete without LaPrade’s. Founded as a fish camp in 1925, today it stands as the only waterfront dining destination on the lake. With full marina services, boat rentals, and dockside dining, it’s a nostalgic yet vibrant hub for lake goers.

Anchorage Marina

The largest and oldest marina on the lake has been owned and operated by generations of the Poole family since 1966.Long known as the original stop for gasoline, ice cream and fishing bait, the store has been expanded over the years and carries a plethora of Lake Burton merchandise in addition to boating essentials.  Word is that a new restaurant is in the works.  It is the vision of Emma Poole, granddaughter of Suzanne and Charles Poole.  Traditions and legacy run deep in the Poole family when it comes to Lake Burton!

Sundays on the Water

Boat Church is a time revered occasion at Lake Burton. Every Sunday from spring through fall, boats bring worshippers who gather at the tip of Moccasin Creek State Park  under the pavilion for “boat church.” No dress code. Some folks show up in bathing suits and there isn’t a coat and tie within ten miles. Some folks have beautiful voices and others have willing hearts, but all lift their songs in praise as the timeless hymns echo across the lake.

Afterward, kids and adults alike jump into the lake for tubing, swimming, or just a lazy float—another perfect day on Lake Burton.

Where the Sun Sets and the Soul Rises

As dusk falls, a chorus of katydids and frogs rises in a lullaby only nature can compose. And as dreams drift in with the cool mountain air, one thing becomes clear: the magic of Lake Burton isn’t just found in its views or its water, but in the feelings it evokes—peace, joy, connection.

It’s no wonder people come back year after year. Once Lake Burton touches your soul, you’re forever changed.

The Waterfall Connection

The gated community of Waterfall at Lake Burton features 204 home sites, with sweeping views of national forest, golf holes, and the lake itself. As of 2025, there are over 55 single-family homes and 6 luxury condos, with many buildable lots that offer incredible views remaining—just a two-hour drive from metro Atlanta, but a world away in feel.

Set inside the development on the ridges overlooking Lake Burton is the Waterfall Club. With a junior Olympic indoor pool, basketball and pickleball courts, a golf simulator, and a championship golf course wrapping around Burton’s Ridge, it offers year-round activity—even on rainy days. Famous faces occasionally drop by, though around here, celebrity isn’t a cause for commotion.
